LIST OF SPECIAL DAYS CELEBRATED IN LOSELING
2 In Saka-dawa (the fourth month of the Tibetan calendar), the monks read the Ornament of Clear Realization and Introduction to the Middle Way texts in the common assembly hall of Drepung University. The aforementioned texts are read and the Guru Puja Feast Offering prayer is performed during this period in Loseling College as well.
3. On the 4th day of sixth month of the Tibetan calendar is an auspicious day. On this day the monks read the Ornament of Clear Realization and Introduction to the Middle Way texts in the common assembly hall of the Drepung University and in their respective colleges as well. The 30th of the same month is the Drepung Shoton, the most famous festival day. On this occasion the Disciplinarian of the Drepung University is changed. On the same day, the enthronement of the new Disciplinarian of Loseling College is also formally celebrated.
4. The 8th day of the seventh month of the Tibetan calendar is celebrated as the Lubum Auspicious Day. On this day the monks recite special prayers and get blessings from all the vital scriptures, paintings and deities of all the Khangtsens of both colleges of Drepung University.
5. On the 22nd day of the ninth month is the Lhabab Duechen, (Lord Buddha’s Descent from the Heaven of Thirty-three after meeting his mother). This auspicious day is celebrated grandly in both the common assembly hall of the Drepung University and in their respective colleges (Loseling and Gomang). During the big prayer meeting in the common hall the monks recite the Ornament of Clear Realization and Introduction to the Middle Way texts and in their monasteries they recite texts in appreciation of the Buddha.
6. The 25th day of the tenth month of the Tibetan calendar is the Great Death Anniversary of Lama Tsongkhapa (Gaden Ngamchoe). On this day the monks perform the Guru Puja of Lama Tsongkhapa and also recite the Ornament of Clear Realization and Introduction to the Middle Way texts in their Khangtsens and in the common assembly hall of the Drepung University. Also, the Migtsema prayer of Lama Tsongkhapa is recited in a melodious tune. The whole Drepung University is lit up with lamps, candles and electric bulbs.
7. On the 14th day of the eleventh month of the Tibetan calendar is the Death Anniversary of Panchen Sonam Dakpa. The monks recite eulogies of Panchen Sonam Dakpa and the Ornament of Clear Realization and Introduction to the Middle Way, and perform the Guru Puja of Panchen Sonam Dakpa. The whole college is lit up with lamps, candles and electric bulbs. On this occasion the monks also recite, melodiously, the Migtsema prayer over and again.
8. On the 25th day of the twelfth month of the Tibetan calendar is the Death Anniversary of Ling Rinpoche, the tutor of His Holiness the Fourteenth Dalai Lama. Monks recite the Ornament of Clear Realization and Introduction to the Middle Way texts in the common assembly hall of Drepung University and in the Colleges. The whole university is lit up with lamps, candles and electric bulbs.
